The Song “Let The People Who Love You, Love You” is a song that comes from my journey through cancer. After hearing my diagnosis that I had Head & Neck Cancer, I was dealing with lots of emotions – anger, pity, depression, and a myriad of others. I was speaking with a loving soul during this time, and her name is Edie Winestein. During our conversation, I made a snarky remark about “Thoughts and Prayers,” at which point Edie replied, “Jon, You Need To Let The People Who Love You”. That statement caught my ear, and I tucked it away for a later date and time.
After my recovery, I wanted to have a concert for all the people who helped me through this terrible treatment: the doctors, nurses, and all the people who shared their “Thoughts and Prayers,” which were many. I started to think about the title Let The People Who Love You, Love You, and that resonated with me, as did the lesson I learned from my journey. I called on my long-time collaborator, Paul Jefferson, and we crafted this new song together.
I look forward to sharing this song with others who need to hear this message as they, too, move forward with their journey, be it cancer or other changing events where the love of others is the medicine of faith that will see you through.
