Lyrics

Well I started as a gleam in my Pappy’s eyes
Swimming with a million other x’s and y’s
Not knowing where I was going but knowing
I had to get there fast

Nine months later I’ve got arms and legs
I’d come a long way from a little bitty egg
And after all of that work on the day of my birth
I get slapped

That’s life, enjoy the ride
We only get a few spins ’round the sun
So everyone, have a little bit of fun
By the time we finally get it right we’re done, that’s life

Well there I was with my cap and gown
Degree in hand and my parents proud
Gonna climb that corporate ladder

To where the money was at
Well, without experience I couldn’t get a job
And without the job I was a total lost cause
But that’s ok cause I’ve learned to say
Hey you want fries with that

That’s life, enjoy the ride
We only get a few spins ’round the sun
So everyone, have a little bit of fun
By the time we finally get it right we’re done, that’s life

I can see it now further down the road
I’m a tired old man and I’m ready to go
Death and taxes finally get me at last

I’m lying on a guerney with a smile on my face
Angels are singing I’m at the Pearly Gates
When some yahoo doctor yells everybody clear
And zaps me back, what’s up with that

That’s life, enjoy the ride
We only get a few spins ’round the sun
So everyone, have a little bit of fun
By the time we finally get it right we’re done, that’s life

This was a tough song to write. I had the music first and just kept playing the melody and licks for days. All that kept coming out was “That’s Life.”So Paul and I started the laborious task of being creative with every line and payoff. We took several sessions to get it right. I like it so much because I can really rip out the licks on stage.
