Description

Lyrics

Barely old enough
To call it love
Showing off, skipping rocks ‘cross the water
Stones

I handed one to you
You put it in your pocket
Said you loved it, said you’d keep it, forever
Stones

One by one they mark our passage
Along this winding road we’re on
With each turn we take from the cradle to the grave
Our lives are paved with stones

A tiny little box
One perfect little rock
A little thing just a ring but it says marry me
Stones

We’ll build ourselves a home
Where love’s the corner stone
We’ll have children, they’ll have children
Till they roll off on their own like
Stones

Birthstones
Stepping stones
Skipping rocks and dodging lots of
Sticks and stones and I’ve been on
Both sides of throwing stones

Years are like the wind
They’re here and gone and then
They’ll blow away our every trace
All except our names engraved in stones.

Chorus

I had scheduled a writing appointment with the number one song writer in Nashville back in 2000 and was desperately trying to think of an idea to bring to the table. I was taking a shower one morning and the idea popped into my head. I was so excited that I got out dripping and all and started writing down all the different types of stones that deal with life. I was very excited to bring it to my writing appointment. Well, the night before we were suppose to get together my writing appointment called and canceled due to illness. I then had another appointment a week later with Kim Tribble and told him about the idea and he was hooked. I then called Jimbeau and the three of us sat down one afternoon and “Stones” was born. No doubt Myself, Kim and Jimbeau were meant to write this song.
