Lyrics
Mom, I found an old photograph
You dressed me up like a cowboy
And boy did I like that
Remember? We had an ice cream birthday cake
With Mickey Mouse, balloons and paper plates
Mom, people say I’ve got your eyes
But I have so much more than that
And now I realize
You taught me right from wrong
For all you’ve ever done
I hope I’ve made you proud I am your son
(chorus)
I am who I am
Who I want to be
In my mirror I see
A reflection of you
So if you never knew
You’re my inspiration, my super star
I am who I am, ’cause you are who you are
Mom, I have a family of my own
I can’t describe what I feel inside
When I’m holding in my arms, my children
And I hope and pray
Like I turn to you they’ll turn to me and say
I am who I am
Who I want to be
In my mirror I see
A reflection of you
So if you never knew
You’re my hero, my super star
I am who I am, ’cause you are who you are
(Bridge)
If you ever wonder, if you ever doubt
What your life has been about just look at me
I am who I am
Who I want to be
In my mirror I see
A reflection of you
So if you never knew
You?re my hero, my super star
I am who I am, ?cause you are who you are

I got together with my friend Kendal and it was our first writing session. I had the title for this song for some time and thought this might be a great start. I knew I wanted to write this for my mom, ‘cause like the title says “I am who I am ‘cause you are who you are.” We took a little liberty on the second verse seeing that I don’t currently have a family…but I’m working on it.
